A Bit of History
The American lollipop goes back to the Civil War when kids stuck pencils in their hard candies (no worries, the pencils weren’t lead). After the war, the lollipop’s popularity fizzled, only to return in the early 20th century when machines were used to make the stick. “Lollipop” was the name of one candy-maker’s favorite race horse.
