A Bit of History

Jelly Belly beans were the brainchild of David Klein, who hired the Goetze Candy Company to make the Jelly Bean for him. Klein thought up the name after seeing Lead Belly on the T.V. show Stanford and Son. He thought the singer’s name was “Jelly Belly.” The Goetz company stole the idea from Klein. After a lengthy law suit, Klein received a relatively small settlement. The Goetz family still owns the rights to Jelly Belly today.
