Fennel Candy, Old Time Sugar Plum
These comfits have fennel seeds at the center, for a deliciously sweet fennel snap.
A Bit of History
These comfits have fennel seeds at the center, which were eaten mainly in India and enjoyed as a breath freshener after a good meal. They likely came from India with British colonists. They belong to the sugar plum family, made by skilled craftsmen who rolled the seeds in sugar syrup over a fire, let them dry, then rolled them again…sometimes taking weeks to complete.
