A Bit of History
In ancient times, people suspended nuts, fruits, and petals in honey. The kind of honey may have varied and include date or fig syrup, which were considered a kind of honey, as well as honey from the bee. The nuts in this collection – pistachios, filberts, and walnuts – are all mentioned in the Bible.
“I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley, and to see whether the vine flourished, and the pomegranates budded.” – Song of Solomon 6:11
