A Bit of History
While the sorghum grain originally arrived with the enslaved people in the early 1700s, it became a cane sugar alternative for abolitionists looking to bankrupt the sugar cane industry. It also became a Southern favorite and was used by Civil War soldiers on both sides. Abraham Lincoln used the sorghum in his campaign talks and, later bootleggers in Appalachia used it to ferment their brew. Sorghum grows in every nation in the world.
