A Bit of History
The mint julep drink originated in Virginia then found a home in Kentucky where it became the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. During Prohibition, restaurant owners compensated for revenues lost because of the ban on alcohol by selling after-dinner candy. Many candies were flavored like alcohol or named with specific drinks.
